Armada House and Francis House in Bristol are typical examples of 1960's high rise tower block architecture. Built for the time, with little consideration for the future, these concrete structures quickly developed problems. Dampness, drab conditions and poor structure have created a second-rate living environment for the tenants.
These homes however are a reality and for local authorities to re-locate the hundreds of people these buildings house would be almost impossible. Often refurbishment is the only way forward. Alsecco's EWI systems offer the benefits these tower blocks have lacked in the past, and are applied with minimum disturbance to the occupants.
Situated side by side, both projects utilised Alsecco's Basic 1 system to achieve a U value calculation under 0.35W/mK. In fact a final U value of 0.33W/mK was achieved using 80mm EPS insulation, Armatop MP base coat and 2.0mm Orgatect top coat.
Because of the nature of the buildings, Bristol City Council specified a product that would improve living conditions and maintain the overall fabric of the building. The Alsecco Basic system offers a much improved U value while achieving an attractive, durable and ultra low maintenance finish.
