It is estimated that there are over 7 million properties in the UK with a solid wall construction that will need upgrading in line with the Governments “Green Deal” initiative.

Older buildings frequently are often poorly insulated if at all. In winter insufficient thermal insulation on the outside walls leads to increased energy consumption and in the summer to high interior temperatures. In most cases, this can result in an uncomfortable interior climate and in extreme cases can even lead to significant damage to the building.

For buildings where it is not possible to insulate the exterior walls because the property is a listed building or just doesn’t lend itself to an exterior application, as is the case in huge number of properties in the UK, interior insulation is the only viable solution.

As a result of the Government’s drive to reduce carbon emissions, every household in the UK is entitled to subsidised insulation, and as well as reducing householder energy bills it will make for a more comfortable living environment and also means each householder is making a valid contribution to reducing carbon emissions.

The Green Deal and ECO initiatives are establishing a framework where private companies are able to offer consumers a loan to upgrade their property and the cost is paid back via the householder’s utility bill; there is no upfront cost at all. alsecco have developed “OpenWall” specifically for this initiative as a cost effective way of increasing the thermal performance of any building.
